KAMIKOCHI

Kamikochi is a slender basin within the remote Chubu Sangaku National Park of Nagano’s Northern Japan Alps. Running 15 kilometres along the Azasu river, the area is renowned for its beautiful, clear waters, riverside forests and the surrounding rocky mountains. This spectacular natural environment is preserved thanks to minimal development and a ban on private cars; it is only accessible by bus or taxi.

Open from mid-April to mid-November, Kamikochi’s spring and summer flora and autumn foliage are a wonderful sight enticing many weekend and holiday visitors. Nature lovers and hikers will relish the wildlife, scenic beauty and variety of trails through the valley or into the surrounding mountains. The trails range from beginner level to advanced multi-day climbs; a breath-taking experience awaits no matter which is chosen.
