HAKUBA
With some of the highest snowfall and finest powder to be found in Japan, as well as nine resorts, 135 lifts and over 200 runs, it’s no surprise that Hakuba is one of the nation’s top winter sport destinations. Nestled in the Northern Alps of the Nagano prefecture, Hakuba is easily accessible from Tokyo, Nagoya and even Kansai. Travel times may be a little long for some so an overnight stay is often recommended to really unwind and enjoy the atmosphere.
This impressive area reached global fame for hosting various events during the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics but these days you don’t have to be a professional athlete to enjoy the skiing, snowboarding and other winter activities in Hakuba. Japanese culture is also in abundance with many beautiful hot springs, cultural activities, classes and a variety of restaurants and bars to suit any taste.
